1st November RSDN meeting

Tuesday, 1 November 2016 -

This meeting will look at agile methods for software development, and the relevance of these approaches for RSDs. Matt Castle (IT Services) will give an introduction to agile methods, and Iain Emsley (OeRC) will discuss their role in research software, leading into open discussion.

The meeting will as usual be followed by time for refreshments and further discussion.

5th October RSDN meeting

This initial meeting of the new academic year will report on the first ever conference for Research Software Engineers, taking place in September, and provide a chance for new members to introduce themselves and find out more about the network.

Report on the Fortran Modernisation Workshop

This two day intense workshop covered a vast array of topics related to developing reliable computational science software in Fortran more effectively, yet still retained time for practical work trying these out and discussions between the course leaders and participants. It was attended by 31 students and staff members of the University. Wadud Miah (NAG) led the workshop, assisted in lecturing by Fatima Chami (Durham) and Kyle Fernandes (Cambridge).

We had five lightning talks from members, as well as James Wilson of IT Services giving some guidance on how to incorporate software development in grant proposals.
